Tuolumne County, CA — The cost to fight the Rim Fire has now exceeded $100 million.

Yesterday firefighters faced hot and extremely dry conditions. Pockets of unburned vegetation around Thompson Peak and at the South edge of the fire’s perimeter continued to burn. Crews took advantage of shifting north by northwest winds to burn out interior pockets of vegetation in the Clavey and Twin Creek areas.

Crews successfully contained 15 spot fires along the Tioga Road yesterday. The number of structures threatened has now dropped to 1,285. 11 homes have been destroyed, 97 outbuildings and seven commercial buildings. There have been nine injuries. 3,027 firefighters are now on scene. The Incident Command reports that the fire is estimated to be 253,332 acres and it is 80% contained.
