Under 2,000 Firefighters On Rim Fire

At its peak over 5,000 firefighters were battling the Rim Fire, and today the number is around 1,900.

The Incident Command reports that the fire is still 81% contained this morning and 255,858 acres. 323 structures are considered threatened. Highway 120 Tioga Pass re-opened yesterday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be cooler today, but gusty winds could create additional fire activity inside the containment lines.

The IC reports that crews will continue to make repairs to suppression lines. To date, repairs have been made to 31 miles of dozer line, two miles of hand line, 36 miles of chipping along roads, and 14 miles of road repair.

Officials are still estimating full containment by September 20th.
