Supervisors Give Input On Rim Fire

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors have extended the local State of Emergency related to the Rim Fire.

State law requires that a local State of Emergency be reassessed within a 30-day period. The extension was approved with a 4-0 vote, as Supervisor Evan Royce was absent. The Rim Fire is currently listed as 84% contained and over 256-thousand acres. Outgoing Incident Commander Jerry McGowan was on hand at the meeting to give an update on extinguishing the blaze. He also received a certificate from the county thanking his team for their efforts. A Type-Two Incident Management Team is taking over Incident Command duties today.

The County also sent a letter to Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski asking for the creation of an Incident Command type structure to address the recovery efforts. County officials stated that it would help keep open communication lines that have been strong throughout the Rim Fire suppression. The letter also asks that the Forest Service expedite the sale of burned timber as a result of the fire.
