945 Firefighters Battling Rim Fire

Tuolumne County, CA — Little has changed on the Rim Fire, but the number of firefighters on scene has dipped below 1,000.

945 firefighters are battling the blaze this morning, and at its peak there were over 5,000. The fire is still estimated to be 257,134 acres and 84% contained. The cost to battle the fire is up to 124.5 million. The fire continues to smolder in areas between Cherry Lake and Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, which is the region still not fully contained. All roads within the fire area remain closed, with the exception of Highway 120. Officials are still expecting full containment by October 1st.
