Update at 2:45 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that ground crews have stopped the forward rate of spread on the Hawkwind Fire in Sheep Ranch at two acres. The flames broke out in the 16900 block of Armstrong Road, off Hubbard Road, and north of Highway 4, with CAL Fire reporting it as an escaped debris burn. Crews will remain on scene mopping up for the next couple of hours. Further details on the fire are below.
Update at 2:05 p.m.: Firefighters continue to work the Hawkwind Fire in the Sheep Ranch area of Calaveras County. It has been reported as an escaped debris burn in the 16900 block of Armstrong Road, off Hubbard Road, and north of Highway 4 by CAL Fire. It has grown from 1 to 2 to 3 acres in size and moving at a slow rate of spread through heavy downed timber. Cal Fire reports crews have laid a hose around the fire, but that they are having spot fire challenges and an additional water tender has been called to the scene. We’ll have an update as soon as new details come into the news center.
Update at 1:35 p.m.: Firefighters are battling a vegetation fire in the Sheep Ranch area of Calaveras County. CAL Fire has reported it as an escaped debris burn in the 16900 block of Armstrong Road near Hawkwind Way, off Hubbard Road, and north of Highway 4. Cal Fire reports the fire is a half to one acre in size and moving at a slow rate of spread. The flames are burning timber understory and it has been dubbed the Hawkwind Incident. Additional information will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
Original post at 12:55 p.m.: Sheep Ranch, CA — Firefighters are heading to a vegetation fire in the Sheep Ranch area of Calaveras County.
CAL Fire has reported it as an escaped debris burn in the 16900 block of Armstrong Road, off Hubbard Road, and north of Highway 4. There is no word as to whether any structures are threatened or the size or the flames’ rate of spread. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
