Update: Crash Sparks Fire Near Copperopolis

Update at 1: 10 p.m.: Ground and Columbia aircraft have extinguished a small fire that ignited after a solo vehicle collision on Highway 4 that ignited a grass fire in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County. No size of the fires was reported. The CHP reports that the eastbound lane of the highway is blocked by the wreckage with officers directing traffic. The is no update on injuries. Original post at 12:37 p.m.: Copperopolis, CA — Ground and Columbia aircraft are heading to a solo vehicle collision on Highway 4 in the Copperopolis area that ignited a grass fire.

The CHP reports that a Chevy SUV went off the roadway and then lost a tire. The wreckage is blocking both lanes of the highway near the Telegraph and Shirley roads intersection. They add that a small fire was started on the north side of the roadway. An ambulance has been called to the scene but there is no word on injuries.

CAL Fire has not given any updates on the activity of the fire. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
