Yosemite Burn Postponed

Yosemite, CA — A prescribed burn that was scheduled to occur over the next few weeks in Yosemite National Park has been postponed until early May.

The park reports that the planned burn in the Bishop Creek area is being delayed due to forecasted rain over the coming days. The prescribed fire near the community of Yosemite West will be 1,447 acres. Once ignited, it will take a few weeks to complete. The burn is designed to reduce surface and ladder fuels. Heavy understory ladder fuels can cause fires to spread to tree canopies, and create undesirable crown fires.

It is not immediately known which day in early May the fire will start. It is weather permitting.
