Sonora El Arson Suspect Pled Guilty

Sonora, CA — 17-year-old suspect Shahaun Lemont Davis admitted to setting the fire at the school in November last year.  He also agreed to an additional two year sentence enhancement for causing more than a million dollars in damage.  Davis entered his guilty plea in a Tuolumne County Superior Courtroom yesterday.

In April, District Attorney Michael Knowles revealed he would try Davis as an adult. The maximum sentence Davis could face is eight years in prison.  D.A. Knowles believes it is unlikely Davis will be sentenced to the maximum since he has no criminal history and his young age.

In regards to Davis’ family claiming another youth was involved in setting the fire. Knowles says, “We prosecuted the case based on the information and evidence presented. There was no evidence to support the prosecution of anyone but Shahaun.”

Davis’ sentencing is set for June 23 in Department 1 of Tuolumne County Superior Court.
