La Grange, CA — Cal Fire has new acreage numbers for both of this week’s fires along J-59.
The Hetchy Incident is contained at 269 acres today. Cal Fire gives an updated number of 487 acres for the J-59 Fire, which was contained yesterday at 6 pm. Both blazes kept firefighters busy for the past couple of days.
The J-59 Fire started around 11:45 am Wednesday on J-59 and Bonds Flat Road west of Don Pedro Reservoir. Initially, there were three fires, but as the flames spread, they combined into one large fire named the J-59 Fire. No homes or structures were threatened. What sparked the blaze is still under investigation.
The Hetchy Incident began just after 3 pm yesterday when a car went off the roadway, smashed into a boulder, flipped over and ignited a grass fire on J-59 south of Old Don Pedro Road.
