Reed Fire 45% Contained

San Andreas, CA — Cal Fire reports the Reed Fire on the southside of San Andreas is now 45% contained, but has grown from 90 to 120 acres in size. Also, 30 residents remain evacuated.

The CHP now reports Highway 49 is now reopened to traffic. A stretch of the roadway from the old airport to Mountain Ranch Road had been shut down for an hour, and then it was down to one-way traffic control for more than a half an hour.

Nearly 30 homes on Howell Road, Magers Way and the Saddleback Subdivision are threatened.  The flames broke out around 4 pm on the 300 block of George Reed Road near Highway 49.  Firefighters continue to battle the blaze from the ground and air. There are 246 firefighters, 22 engines, 9 fire crews, 5 water tenders, 2 dozers, 1 air attack and helicopter. Assisting are San Andreas Fire, Mokelumne Hill Fire, Central Fire, Foothill Fire, CHP, and the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
