Sonora, CA — The 17-year-old who admitted to setting the fire at Sonora Elementary was sentenced in a Tuolumne County Superior courtroom earlier this week. Shahaun Lemont Davis will serve his time in a juvenile facility even though the Tuolumne County District Attorney charged him as an adult back in April.
In May, Davis pled guilty to the arson and agreed to an additional two-year sentence enhancement for causing more than a million dollars in damage. The November fire destroyed the F building, which had 11 classrooms and was connected to the Administrative Offices and another similar building with classrooms.
There is a chance Davis could be placed in an adult prison if the Department of Juvenile Justice will not allow him in one of its facilities according to the District Attorney’s Office.
