New Logging Requirements Amid Drought

Sacramento, CA — Due to the drought, the state wants to know how much water logging companies are extracting to help control dust.

The Associated Press reports that the California Board of Forestry is now requiring timber companies to disclose how much water is used for the practice known as “water drafting.” Timber companies sometimes spray water to protect people, plants and animals from the dust generated by logging trucks.

Previously, the requirement was only in place when water was taken from streams that had salmon or steelhead fish. The Board of Forestry noted that the change was made over concerns that most all California waterways are currently at historically low levels.
