Sonora’s Movie Premiere Event

Sonora, CA —  Kids get the “red carpet’ treatment at a movie event focused on fire safety.

It is all part of the U.S. Forest Service’s “One Less Spark” campaign. Forest Officials are using the premiere of the animated movie, “Planes: Fire and Rescue” to educate kids on wildfires. Showcased at Friday’s  event will be real Forest Service Smoke Jumpers who worked on the movie.

“They filmed these particular elite Smoke Jumpers in action,” explains Patrick Karnahan with the U.S. Forest Service, “so basically they {animators] used their silhouette and then made them into cartoon form.”

Karnahan explains these jumpers are the elite of the Forest Service and it is a unique opportunity for the public to see them in action.  Local firefighters and Smokey Bear will also be on hand. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Regal Sonora Theater.
