Mariposa County, CA — Cal Fire release the latest numbers on the 300-acre vegetation fire on Highway 49 near Mariposa. Crews have made headway overnight and have the blaze 25% contained. There are 746 firefighters battling the blaze. On scene are 94 fire engines, 27 hand crews, and 11 dozers.
The Mariposa Sheriff’s Office has an evacuation order in place for approximately 700 homes and five businesses in the Ponderosa Basin Area, along with the Harris Cutoff Road and the Chowchilla Mountain Road. A Red Cross Shelter is located at the New Life Christian Church on Cole Rd in the community of Bootjack.
The fire started on Highway 49 near Harris Road and the William Sell Bridge, which is 10 miles from Mariposa. The CHP has closed down Highway 49 between Worman Road and Chowchilla Mountain Road. The northbound lane is closed, but there is one-way traffic control on the southbound lane.
