Fire Threatens Big Trees

A vegetation fire has been reported near the Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  The exact location is unclear at this time, but Cal Fire has reports of a white plume of smoke in the sky in that area.  There is no word on size or rate of spread or how close the flames are to the big trees.  We will bring you more information as soon as it is available.

Update 9:55 a.m.: Cal Fire reports the fire is 3 acres in size.  The flames are near the South Grove off Forest Road 5N07 in the Million Dollar Springs area.  Cal Fire has reports of a white plumb in the sky in that area. There is no word on the rate of spread or how close the flames are to the big trees.

Update 10 a.m.:  Cal Fire reports the fire is 3 acres in size.  There is no word on rate of spread.

Update 10:20 a.m.: Cal Fire reports crews are getting a handle on the flames.

Update 10:55 a.m.: Cal Fire reports that they have a hose line around the fire, but the windy conditions are sparking spot fires outside the line.
