Wind Keeps Crews on Big Trees Fire

Calaveras Big Trees Park, CA – Firefighters will work overnight to keep the 3-acre vegetation fire in Calaveras Big Trees Park in check.

The fire started around 9:30 this morning near the South Grove off Forest Road 5N07.  A fire line was completed around the flames around 11:30 a.m. Cal Fire reports a light rain swept through the area this afternoon, but winds have been sparking spot fires outside the line.  Crews will remain on scene tonight and tomorrow mopping up and checking for hot spots.  There remains no word on just how close the flames are to the big trees.
