Duplex Fire Under Investigation

Sonora, CA —   Fire investigators are actively looking into what sparked a duplex fire in Sonora.  Sonora Fire Chief Mike Noonan says, “We’ve ordered our fire investigative unit from the police department and they will start the investigation [into a cause].”

The flames broke out at 12:20 p.m. at a duplex on the 370 block of Alpine Lane near Calaveras Way just southwest of Sonora High School.  Chief Noonan describes the path of the flames, “It looks like it started on the back of the duplex and spread to the attic.  I wouldn’t call it a complete loss at this time.”

Cal Fire reports that firefighters did what is called a standard tack and search of the duplex.  “They were occupied. There were several residents in there, but they have all been accounted for, they’re all out of the residence.”

Cal Fire reports no other structure or vegetation was threatened by the flames.  Crews will be on the scene mopping up for several hours.
