Power To Fight Fires

Columbia, CA — As California’s drought continues into a fourth year, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and the Highway 108 Fire Safe Council, a non-profit fire prevention organization, are teaming up to stop fires before they start.

Through a $235,000 PG & E grant, the two are currently working on shaded firebreaks in the Columbia area to prevent wildfires.  Crews are clearing away small trees and brush on each side of the roads in the area, benefiting residents of Gold Springs, Parrott’s Ferry, Yankee Hill, Sawmill Flat, Bald Mountain and Apply Valley.

“Partnerships between the Fire Safe Council and PG&E are very important in helping keep our communities fire safe,” said Glenn Gottschall, president of the Highway 108 Fire Safe Council.  “We are grateful…for the funding to help complete this work that will have benefits to the local community and beyond.”

PG & E reports the removal process began in September and should be completed by the end of November.
