A new U.S. Census Bureau report estimates a slow growth in population for not only the state, but the Mother Lode in the next 45 years.
The report summarizes population projections from 2015 to 2060 in five years increments. For Tuolumne County, it forecast not only slow, but also small growth of just 5,843 people over that time frame. Calaveras County is projected to double that number with 12,100.
Additional sections of the report break down the projections by race and major age groups. Both counties it is estimated will continue to trend older in age, but with a majority of the population increase made up of Hispanics and multi-races.
The state follows suit with the projected population topping 51 million by 2060, a 38 % increase from 2010. The report shows a Multi-race hike of 168% with the White population declining by 13% or nearly 2 million during the period.
