Update: 8:35 a.m.: Cal Fire dispatch now confirms one person has died in a trailer fire in Angels Camp. No further details are being released regarding the victim. Fire and Calaveras County Sheriff’s investigators remain on the scene canvasing the debris to determine what sparked the blaze. Additionally, Cal Fire will not say whether the fire is considered “suspicious.”
Original Post 5:44 a.m.: Angels Camp, CA — Firefighters are still on the scene of an early morning structure fire in Calaveras County off Highway 4.
Cal Fire dispatch reports the call came in around 3:11 a.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, at Mjb Ranch Road just off Pool Station Road in Angels Camp, a trailer was fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread to nearby vegetation, but was contained at a 1/2 acre in about an hour.
Cal Fire dispatch says Fire and Calaveras County Sheriff’s investigators are sifting through the rubble to determine what sparked the blaze, but had no details on whether the fire is considered “suspicious.” It is unclear whether any one was inside the trailer when the flames broke out.
Crews will remain on scene for the next couple of hours mopping up. Resources on scene included 9 engines, one water tender and about 30 firefighters.
