Carson Hill, CA — Law enforcement has released more details on a chase that ended in a crash and put the driver behind bars.
As reported Thursday, 55-year-old David Muhammad Hunter of Pleasanton was arrested after leading Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase in a 1992 Ford Econoline van, which he eventually crashed into an embankment, on Highway 49 near Red Hill Road around 3:30 a.m. Initially, the sheriff’s department did not release any details regarding the arrest.
On Friday, sheriff’s official gave this account of the incident stating that the chase began at the Froggy’s Auto Wash & Lube in the 500 block of south Main Street in Angels Camp. A deputy spotted the van parked at the closed car wash and became suspicious. When the deputy tried to question Hunter, he revved the van’s engine repeatedly and took off, sparking the chase, which headed south bound on Hwy 49. Nearing the Carson Hill area, Hunter lost control of the van on a curve, crashing it into a dirt embankment. Deputies, along with CHP officers, were forced to use a pry bar to get Hunter out of the van as he refused repeated orders to exit the vehicle.
Hunter was arrested for evading a peace officer and resisting arrest. He suffered minor injuries in the wreck.
