Smoke Visible Wednesday Over Angels Camp

Angels Camp, CA — The public may see plenty of emergency personnel and equipment near Angels Camp Wednesday, June 8th but no need to call 911, as it will be part of a drill.

The Angels Camp Fire Department will be conducting a wildland fire training exercise from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. just south of the Angels Camp city limits near the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in the field behind the Glory Hole Sports. Deputy Chief Nathan Pry explains, “It’s part of a class learning how to use fire to manage a wild land fire. This is burning between seven to ten acres of grass…The public will not be able to see active flames  from the roadway.”

The goal is to allow firefighters to train with live flames while in a controlled environment. Smoke will be visible along highway 49 and throughout the city. Cal Fire is aware of the mock fire taking place.
