Update at 5:50 p.m.: Both fires are in very remote areas, according to forest officials, who state that ground crews will remain working the blazes overnight.   No structures are threatened in either fire.

Original post at 5:40 p.m.: Stanislaus National Forest, CA — After assisting in battling a blaze in western Merced County we reported here. A Columbia helicopter that was heading back to base spotted a small fire in the Stanislaus National Forest off Highway 108 near Clarks Ford Road in the Summitt Ranger District. It has been titled the Boulder Fire with two engines and a hand crew on the scene. This is on the southside of another fire called the Cotton Fire that is burning on the northside of the highway in the same area, which crews have been battling all day. It is quarter acre in size.
