Yosemite, CA — While celebrating the July 4th holiday weekend, Yosemite National Park officials stress to visitors that fireworks are strictly forbidden but getting there early is highly recommended.
Even with 300 new parking spaces west of Yosemite Lodge, Independence Day weekend is a huge draw for the park bringing the potential for traffic congestion and parking problems. Park officials says the best way to steer clear of the crowds is to get to the park before 9 a.m. Park officials maintain that in past years, during peak hours, there have been delays of up to two hours for motorists. Suggested alternatives are to take the free shuttle bus in Yosemite Valley or the YARTZ buses that leaves from several destinations, including Sonora.
Besides fireworks being banned, park officials are asking visitors to avoid igniting campfires due to the lingering drought creating exceptionally dry conditions. Additionally, with this weekend’s temperatures forecasted to be in the mid 90’s drinking plenty of water is a must, according to park officials.
Yosemite campgrounds are completely sold out. Park officials note that first-come, first-serve reserved spots are limited and will fill up quickly.
