Smoky Skies Across Mother Lode

Sonora, CA — Several fires are burning throughout California, and Mother Lode residents are smelling the drift smoke.

As of 3:10pm this afternoon, CAL Fire reports that there are no active fires in Tuolumne or Calaveras counties. That said, several areas of the Mother Lode are reporting heavy smoke.  A CAL Fire official reports that it is most likely from the Soberanes Fire burning in Monterey County. It is 33,668 acres and 15% contained.

In Madera County some local CAL Fire resources are also helping to extinguish the Fork Fire, east of the community of North Fork. The fire is around 38 acres of 40% contained.

In addition, the Sand Fire in Los Angeles County is 38,873 acres and 85% contained. It is located at Sand Canyon in Santa Clarita.
