All Aircraft Released From Old Fire

Groveland, CA — The operations are starting to wind down on the Old Fire burning in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Forest Service Spokesperson Clare Long reports that the blaze is still estimated to be 150 acres and 70-percent contained, but several resources are being released, including all the aircraft.

Long says, “We’re in the process of doing mop-up and falling some hazard trees along the edges of the perimeter to prevent any of the trees that have been smoldering from falling and starting a fire outside the area. Crews are also starting to do rehab work, which means they are putting in things like water bars to rehab the dozer lines that were put around the fire.”

Full containment is still anticipated by Sunday. What ignited the fire remains under investigation. The fire started at 1:55pm on Tuesday in the area of Old Yosemite Road in the Groveland Ranger District.
