Permits Not Needed To Burn

San Andreas, CA — CAL Fire has lifted the burn hour restriction for Tuolumne and Calaveras counties within the State Responsibility Area.

Burn permits are no longer required and burn hours are not restricted. Cal Fire reports that open burning is allowed on “Permissive Burn Days” determined by the Air Pollution Control District in each county. In Tuolumne County, property owners will still need a burn permit from the Air Pollution Control District if the parcel is two acres or more in size. Additionally,  in the City of Sonora burn permits are required all year.  In Calaveras County, a district permit is needed for five acres or more.

Cal Fire wants to remind the public that fall is the perfect time to work to maintain 100 feet of defensible space around a home by creating vertical and horizontal spacing between grass, shrubs, and trees. Additionally, tree branches should be trimmed to a minimum of 10 feet from other trees.
