Live Fire Training Exercise Planned Near Angels Camp

Angels Camp, CA — You may notice quite a little fire activity next week on the east side of Fowler Peak Lookout near Angels Camp.

CAL Fire will be conducting an exercise at the Whittle Vegetation Management Program site situated west of the city limits. The training is designed to instruct and certify CAL Fire employees in the proper use of a helitorch.

A helitorch is a device, suspended underneath the helicopter, which dispenses ignited gelled fuel.

The tool helps remove forest fuel from areas surrounding a fire in an effort to prevent the fire’s spread. Dozer piles will be lit in a controlled environment as part of the exercise. You may notice burning on Tuesday through Friday from 10am-5pm. Resources utilized will be a helicopter, three engines, three crews and two bulldozers.
