Tree Removal Over Half Done In Butte Fire Footprint

Mountain Ranch, CA – The recent rains slowed work on the hazardous tree removal on the Butte Fire burn scar, but crews are back on track passing the half way mark.

Calaveras County reports in the past two weeks crews have cleared more than 1,800 burnt trees from both Public Right of Ways and Private Property. To date, 4,386 hazard burnt trees have been cut down. There are twelve cutting and four hauling crews working on the project.

County officials are touting the economic benefit to the area stating that many local people are working at the sites. In addition, they add that those from out of town are staying at hotels, eating at restaurants, shopping and filling their gas tanks, which brings revenue to the county.

Currently, tree falls continue on Doster, Hawver, Whiskey Slide, Mountain Ranch, Jesus Maria, and Cave City roads from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.
