Update: Snowy And Icy Roads Create Traffic Hazards Wednesday

Update at 5:15 p.m.: The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office reports that all county roads except one have reopened. Still closed is Jerseydale Road, which will be open to residents only.

Update at 5:45 p.m.: Mariposa County Sheriff’s officials are reporting that all county roads have reopened except the ones listed below that can be accessed by residents only:

The public is asked to drive with “extreme caution,” while watching for falling trees, emergency vehicles, and work crews in the area. Sheriff’s officials remind everyone to “treat all powerlines down as if they are live and report any hazards you see by calling 911. Please do not attempt to enter closed areas as hazards remain.”

Additionally, the public should continue to use 911 for life safety emergencies only. For problems related to food, heat, water, or transportation issues, please call 209-259-1332.

Update at 11:08am: The CHP reports that Highway 108 is closed near the site of this morning’s big rig truck accident close to the lower Mono Way turnoff. It is due to ongoing cleanup.  Traffic is being detoured to Mono Way.

Original story posted at 8am: Sonora, CA — There have been some significant accidents in the Mother Lode today due to slick roadways.

The CHP reports that a big rig truck has gone off the overpass of Highway 108 near lower Mono Way. The driver is out of the vehicle, and a tow truck is responding to the area. Approximately 40 feet of guardrail post has been damaged, according to the CHP.

In the Soulsbyville area, there is an unknown traffic hazard at 17018 Monte Grande Drive, impacting traffic, so be prepared for activity.

In Calaveras County, Highway 4 is closed at Utica Powerhouse Road due to powerlines down, and at Brice Station Road due to a tree into power lines.

In Mountain Ranch, a sedan is stuck in the snow on Whiskey Slide Road near Mountain Ranch Road.
