Update: Hill Fire in Valley Springs

Update at 1:20 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that the forward spread of the Hill Fire has been stopped at under an acre. The flames ignited in the 3600 block of Paloma Road, near Gillam Road, at around 12:30 p.m.

A small crew will remain on scene, working towards full containment and then mopping up for the next couple of hours. What sparked the blaze is under investigation.

Original post at 12:39 p.m.: Valley Springs, CA — Air and ground resources are battling a vegetation fire on Paloma Road, near Pardee Reservoir in the Valley Springs area of Calaveras County.

The flames ignited in the 3600 block of Paloma Road, near Gillam Road, at around 12:30 p.m. CAL Fire has named it the “Hill Fire.” Spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports, “Firefighters are at the scene of the one-acre vegetation fire with a moderate rate of spread.”

There is no information currently on whether any structures are threatened. Additional resources have been called to the scene. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
