Update at 1:50 p.m.: Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of the Young Fire that CAL Fire has given a new location near Highway 49 and Nielson Road in the Mokelumne Hill area. The fire is 3 acres in size. Ground crews will remain on scene, working towards full containment and then mopping up for a couple of hours. What sparked the blaze is under investigation.
Update at 1:09 p.m.: Air and ground resources are working on the Young Fire burning along Highway 26 and Paloma Road.
CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports, “The fire is holding at 3 acres in size.” Currently, there is no information on the blaze’s activity or whether any structures are threatened.
Original post at 12:50 p.m.: Paloma, CA — Air and ground resources are heading to a vegetation fire along Highway 26 near Paloma Road in the Paloma area of Calaveras County.
The flames ignited in the grass near the highway. It has been named the Young Fire. Currently, there is no information on the blaze’s activity or size or whether any structures are threatened. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
