Smoke Plume On Bear Mountain/Fowler Peak

Calaveras County, CA — Clarke Broadcasting has received several calls and emailed photos of a blaze in the area between Angels Camp and Copperopolis reporting a vegetation fire but there is no need for alarm as it is a prescribed burn.

As we reported earlier this week, CAL Fire is conducting a prescribed burn this weekend at the Whittle Vegetation Management site on Bear Mountain/Fowler Peak. Smoke is visible from both Highway 4 and 49. The goal of the 530-acre burn is to reduce hazardous fuels around Fowler Peak lookout, communication towers, and surrounding infrastructure.

CAL Fire asks the public not to report this as a wildland fire, noting that officials will remain on scene until all of the hotspots are extinguished.
