Update at 5 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that crews have stopped the forward spread of the Spur Fire burning along Highway 26 near the Railroad Flat Road intersection. They had reported that when the first engine arrived on the scene, it was a 50′ x 50′ spot fire, with the flames burning at a slow rate of spread. In coming resources have been called off the scene. CHP officers continue to direct traffic along the highway. Ground crews will continue to work towards full containment and then mop up for the next couple of hours. What ignited the fire is under investigation.
Original post at 4:25 p.m.: West Point, CA — Air and ground resources are working on a vegetation fire along Highway 26 in the West Point area of Calaveras County.
CAL Fire has dubbed it the Spur Fire burning near the Railroad Flat Road intersection. They report that when the first engine arrived on the scene, it was a 50′ x 50′ spot fire, with the flames burning at a slow rate of spread. There is no word as to whether any structures are threatened. Four aircraft, including one helicopter and three planes, are flying overhead.
The CHP reports that officers are directing traffic on the highway at the intersection. We’ll provide an update as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
