San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Elections Office is planning to count another round of ballots this coming Friday.
Calaveras Clerk/Recorder Rebecca Turner recently stated that at least 13 ballots still remain to be counted in that final round. In addition, there are 161 challenged ballots with no signatures, or nonmatching signatures. Voters in this category have been notified and have until December 1st to address the issue with the Election’s Office.
With so few ballots outstanding, it is clear that incumbent Gary Tofanelli will win re-election to his District One Supervisor seat. He has 2,310 votes to Tim Grant’s 2,094. In the District Two race, Autumn Andahl is the projected winner with 2,525 votes to Trevor Wittke’s 2,417 (108 vote advantage).
In the Angels Camp City Council race, where there are three open seats, Michael Chimente (1,180 votes) and Scott Behiel (1,015 votes) and comfortably in first and second place. The final seat is only separated by 14 votes, as Caroline Schirato has 839 and Mary Kelly has 825.
It should be noted that even if all of the 161 challenged ballots are certified, they will be from different portions of the county, and not all will include the above-mentioned region-specific races.
We reported earlier, in Tuolumne County, that Mike Holland easily won the only contested Board of Supervisor race that was on the ballot during the General Election.
During the earlier March Primary, Steve Griefer won the District Four seat, and Jaron Brandon won re-election to the District Five seat.
