Sonora, CA—Cooking the Thanksgiving feast should not end in disaster, as the holiday is the number one day for home fires caused by cooking and the equipment used, according to CAL Fire.
CAL Fire offers a few simple steps that can help keep the kitchen safe:
Regarding cooking equipment, CAL Fire reports that turkey fryers can be a dangerous hazard if not used correctly. They advise always to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, keep fryers outdoors, and never leave them unattended. Additionally, they offer this pro tip: Make sure your turkey is completely thawed before frying to avoid dangerous splattering and ensure that your fryer has enough room for the turkey without overflowing!
CAL Fire officials say, “Taking just a few minutes for these precautions can make a huge difference in preventing kitchen fires and protecting your loved ones. Stay safe and prepared and enjoy a fire-free holiday!”
