Update: Fire Near Groveland

Update at 1:10 p.m.: Air and ground resources have stopped the forward spread of a vegetation fire dubbed the Ferry Fire by CAL Fire. It is burning along Wards Ferry Road, near Thiel Road west of Groveland in Tuolumne County. Crews were able to get control of the blaze within minutes of their arrival. The size of the fire is estimated at two to three acres. All aircraft from the Columbia Airbase have been called off the scene along with other incoming resources. A small crew will remain on scene, working towards full containment and then mopping up for the next hour. What ignited the fire is under investigation.

Original post at 12:45 p.m.: Tuolumne County, CA — Air and ground resources are battling a vegetation fire along Wards Ferry Road in the Groveland area of Tuolumne County.

The flames broke out after 12:30 p.m. near Thiel Road. CAL Fire reports that the blaze is one to two acres in size. There is no word on the flames’ activity or whether any structures are threatened, and an update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
