Update: Groveland Area Prescribed Burn Postponed

Update at 2:01pm: Plans to burn at least 100 acres of grass and oak understory that were cancelled today are apparently back on for tomorrow.

According to CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore, the decision was made today to ignite a prescribed burn in the Gookin Vegetation Management Program tomorrow around 9 a.m. after conferring with air pollution control officials, who anticipate favorable conditions tomorrow.

The burn, which is planned to last until around 6 p.m., may be visible in the Groveland, Big Oak Flat and Greeley Hill areas. Kilgore says a final assessment to ignite it will be made after reassessing conditions tomorrow morning.

We reported yesterday that the plan was to burn at least 100 acres of grass and oak understory today in the Gookin Vegetation Management Program.
