Late Night Vegetation Fire

Oakdale, CA — Residents along Highway 108/120 may have been awoken by the sound of fire sirens and engines racing past their homes last night.

Calls came into dispatch just after midnight regarding a vegetation fire in the vacinity of 8000 Sonora Road near 26-Mile Road and the Woodward Reservoir in the Oakdale area of Stanislaus County. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that when crews arrived to the scene, they found flames burning in grass at a slow rate of spread in an open field. The fire was contained in about a half hour at around a quarter acre. No structures were threatened.

Crews remained on scene for several hours mopping up and checking for hotspots.
