Sonora, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Fire warning for many counties across the region, including parts of Tuolumne and Calaveras.
Locally in the Mother Lode, it is specifically for elevations between 1,000 to 3,000 feet.
The fire warning will continue through 11 o’clock this evening. It is due to a dangerous combination of gusty winds, warmer temperatures and dry conditions. The winds are gradually expected to decrease throughout this afternoon and into the evening hours. Wind gusts of 15-30 mph are projected through many areas, with peak winds reaching 40-55 mph at times. Any fires that develop have the potential to spread rapidly.
