Bear Mountain Burn A ‘No Go’ This Week

San Andreas, CA — A prescribed burn scheduled for this week that would be visible to motorists along Highway 49 and the New Melones communities has been postponed again.

According to CAL Fire officials, crews will not be igniting 500 acres on the Bear Mountain Shaded Fuel Break and Whittle Vegetation Management Plan burn site in Calaveras County, west of Angels Camp around the Fowler Peak Lookout.

The burn, which was already postponed once due to conditions and fire activity, was slated for this Tuesday through Friday, as reported here. The objectives are to reduce fuels and manage vegetation around the infrastructure located around the peak as well as facilitate CAL Fire and local fire departments to continue training personnel in various firing and fire management maneuvers on the site.

At this point, a new date has yet to be set. We will let you know when more information comes into the news center.
