Mother Nature Helped Contain Donnell Fire

Tuolumne County, CA – The falling rain has allowed Stanislaus National Forest Fire officials to call the Donnell Fire fully contained.

The flames that ignited the evening of August 1st near the east side of Donnell Lake off Highway 108 in the Summit Ranger District destroyed 54 structures, including the historic Dardanelle Resort, and 81 outbuildings. Noting that the final size of the fire is 36,450 acres burned, Deputy Forest Supervisor for Stanislaus National Forest Scott Tangenberg updates, “With the recent weather events it [the fire] has been declared 100 percent contained.”

As reported here, the owners of businesses and cabins destroyed by the flames in October questioned Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken as to when they could start to rebuild and when permits would be issued to allow them on their properties. He noted that could possibly happen in the spring of 2019, but made no promises. The cause of the fire has not yet been released. Click here for a timeline of the Donnell Fire.
