Christmas Events And More Weekend Holiday Fun

There are several holiday events, appearances by Santa and Christmas dinners coming up.

As reported here Sonora’s traditional Bean Feed is Friday at noon. The free community feed is held outside of The Sportsman on South Washington Street. According to Jim Phelan, President of the Tuolumne County Sportsmen, a local fishing and hunting organization, “We will learn a lot with this being our first year, but Mutz will be there along with numerous others who used to volunteer for this event.” Also downtown, the Pop Hudson Sing begins at 12:45, in Courthouse Park.

Chicken Ranch Casino’s 8th Annual Community Dinner is this Friday, December 21, from 5 to 8 PM. Details about the event were featured here.

Friday the Senior Center invites you to enjoy a Christmas buffet lunch. The menu and ticket information are in the event listing here.  The Senior Center is also hosting a Holiday Bake Sale with “a wide variety of treats and goodies”. Both Friday events are sponsored by the Senior Center Site Council and proceeds benefit the Senior Center and the Site Council, details are here. 

A bus will park in front of the Sonora Wal-Mart on Saturday, December 22nd from 9 AM to 4 PM for a “Stuff the Bus” event. Volunteers will handout a list of needed items to anyone interested in participating. After shopping, people can drop off their contributions for storage in the bus. Distribution of donated items with happen with the assistance of the Jamestown Family Resource Center at local parks and other identified locations. The event listing is here.

At Murphys Creek Theater enjoy the play Inspecting Carol, performances continue through December 23rd.  Sierra Repertory’s East Sonora Theatre is showing Holiday Jukebox also through December 23rd.

Take a drive through Phoenix Lake and see the 2018 Christmas Light Show after dark. A map of the location is in the community event listing here. The display is put on by the Athletic Scholarship Foundation of Tuolumne County through Christmas Eve.

If you haven’t caught Santa at Courthouse Park he will be there Friday and Saturday from 3 to 5PM as detailed here. Sunday Santa will be at Courthouse Park between Noon and 3:30PM.

Monday, Christmas Eve a full meal is served to one and all at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds with live holiday music gifts and the appearance of Santa Claus. Reservations for delivery of meals, and/or rides needed, must be received by 5PM Friday. Details are here.

Christmas day at the Sonora Opera Hall from 1PM to 4PM is another free Community Christmas Dinner. For meal deliveries or to find out more information call 770-0536.

Native Sons Hall on Main Street in Murphys offers a turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas day, and gifts for the young people. The tradition started in 1983 and now has about 40 volunteers, some who have been doing this for years. Details are here.
