Sonora, CA — Off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts are invited to weigh in on grant applications in the works by Stanislaus National Forest officials on behalf of the community.
For the specific purpose of gathering oral and written comments and answering questions, Forest officials are hosting an open house on Thursday, April 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Forest Supervisor’s office (19777 Greenley Road, Sonora).
As we reported here, the forest submitted preliminary 2019/2020 grant cycle applications for routes, trails, and facilities maintenance and repairs; OHV law enforcement support across the forest; also a forest-wide restoration grant to repair areas impacted by unauthorized OHV activity.
Officials note that past grants have provided funding for route and trail maintenance and repairs, including clearing downed trees, on more than 1,693 miles of OHV routes on Stanislaus National Forest; provided law enforcement patrols on an additional 756 miles of native surface forest roads; printed free Motor Vehicle Use Maps; also enabled other education, planning, development, and restoration activities.
These preliminary grant applications are additionally available to review and comment on via the OHMVR website through May 6 by clicking here.
