Inmates Will Train This Week For Fire Season

Calaveras County, CA — As fire season approaches, CAL Fire will be conducting crew readiness drills for its baseline and Vallecito camps this Wednesday and Thursday. It will help assess the prisoners in the program and and qualify them for assignments.

Division Chief Charlie Blankenheim says, “Crews will be required to perform events which include line construction, crew hike, fire engine orientation and fire hose deployment, dozer and helicopter safety, and fire shelter deployment to evaluate their preparedness for the 2019 fire season.”

The drills will start each day at 8am and end at 5pm. You may notice activity at Hogan Reservoir and at the Vallecito Camp on both days.
