Tuolumne County, CA – Forest Officials report the Stanislaus National Forest fire near Ascension Mountain in South Tuolumne County has grown from one to five acres. However, Forest Spokesperson Jerry Snyder says “We have a good handle on it. All the aircraft except for one have been released so they’ve got hose line in strategic locations that they’re using to cool things down.” Snyder adds “We don’t have any serious wind so things are looking up at this time.”
Snyder says no structures are in danger. He says an investigator is being called in to determine what sparked the blaze. Snyder says six engines are on the scene and they will continue to battle the blaze overnight.
