Summer Fire Season Begins Next Week

San Andreas, CA– Next week is the beginning of summer fire season in Tuolumne and Calaveras County.

The Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of Cal Fire made the announcement today saying the opening of summer preparedness (fire season) will start this Monday, June 13th.

“Even though our area has experienced an extended period of spring time rain, the lower elevations are starting to become dry,” said Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Chief Mike Noonan. “Burn time hours will remain open so citizens can continue working on defensible space.”

Burn permits are required and weather conditions will continue to be monitored on a daily basis. When it becomes necessary, burn time hours will be restricted or burning will be suspended.

Chief Noonan also encourages residents to consider alternatives to burning such as recycling, composting or chipping defensible space debris.
