Olsen Says Californians Deserve Better

Sacramento, CA– Assemblymember Kristin Olsen today weighed in on yesterday’s passage of a new state budget.

“I have always been committed to working with both sides to craft a budget that reduces government spending and funds the core priorities of Californians, but this is a budget with too many “ifs”. I will not be able to support the Democrat’s new budget plan because it is balanced on revenue that may never materialize and lacks necessary reforms. Californians deserve better. This budget is only a temporary solution and does nothing to fix California’s long-term fiscal health. To get California back on track, we need to right-size government, create jobs, make structural reforms and prioritize public safety and education.”

Governor Jerry Brown and Democratic leaders passed the budget last night on a party-line vote, and dropped their proposal to increase temporary tax extensions set to expire on Friday. It relies on spending cuts, a projected $4 billion rise in tax revenue, and fee increases to close the deficit.

Assemblymember Olsen represents the 25th Assembly District in the California Legislature which includes Angels Camp and Sonora.
