Sonora, CA– Tuolumne County’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity recently received a generous donation.
Blue Mountain Minerals of Columbia has donated $100,000 which will go towards the building of the first duplex in the Parrotts Ferry Village subdivision.
“We’re just thrilled to be part of this program,” said Blue Mountain Minerals president Carey Haughy. “We realize young people and their families need help finding family wage jobs and affordable housing. It’s so important to retain these young people in our community because they are our future. We encourage individuals and businesses to join us in helping them out.”
Habitat for Humanity’s Executive Director Betsy Harden says she is thrilled at the amount of the donation, especially in these current economic times.
“To get that kind of support from a local company, it shows what kind of a community we live in,” said Harden. “This is a company willing to really put their money where their mouth is about having affordable housing for the people in this community. We hope other businesses will see the value in it too.”
A groundbreaking ceremony for Parrotts Ferry Village was held on August 6. Harden says the first duplex should be completed later this year, and a second by Spring of 2012.
Over 30 homes will eventually be built on the site at 22185 Parrotts Ferry Road, between Sonora and Columbia.
