Sonora, CA – Interfaith Social Services is the recipient of the Elaine Symons Baker Community Impact Award and has been given a $10,000 check from the Sonora Area Foundation.
The Tuolumne County organization will use the money to purchase food, clothing and provide fundamental services for those in need. The organization is currently serving 860 families each month.
"Our caseload has taken such a big jump this year," reads a statement from Phil Sandoval, Interfaith Deputy Director and Treasurer. "With so many people out of work, it really has climbed."
The annual award is named in memory of Sonora native Elaine Symons Baker, who was one of the founding donors to the Sonora Area Foundation. It is presented each year to a non-profit agency that has a significant impact on the community.
